MASSIVE VICTORY FOR HRG!

An emotional but delighted Pauline Buckett said 'I did this for Terry to carry on his work but I also did it for the people of Henley. I will not let them down. This is not about politics. I am not interested in political infighting. The message I was getting when I was out campaigning was that people were telling me they had faith in me to continue Terry’s work. They said they had lost a great man and I want to now go forward in his place. Pauline was cheered and warmly congratulated by her family and her supporters when the vote was announced.
Cllr Elizabeth Hodgkin, said: 'This week has been an emotional rollercoaster for all of us, especially Pauline who has done magnificently. I am delighted to have been given the opportunity by the people of Henley to carry on Terry’s work on the District Council. I think he would have liked the fact someone he knew has taken his place. He would have been especially proud of Pauline tonight.'
Elizabeth added 'I see my role as bringing news and updates back from the District Council and informing Henley of what is going on. HRG deserves to be represented. I will not be afraid to put Henley's view. I know a lot of the movers and shakers at the District Council now and have a good relationship with most of them. My style is one of diplomacy, tact and tolerance which I intend to use to get HRG's point of view across to the party in power at SODC.
For the Henley South seat on Henley Town Council, Pauline Buckett (HRG) polled 633 votes to beat her nearest rival, Will Hamilton (Conservative) who polled 479 votes to Richard West’s (Liberal Democrat) 114 votes.
For the Henley South seat on the District Council Cllr Hodgkin (HRG) polled 642 votes, David Silvester (Conservative) 472 votes and George Levy (Liberal Democrat) 110 votes.

Pauline Buckett for Town Council
Like my husband, I am a local girl having been raised in Binfield Heath and later moving to Henley when I married Terry in 1972. I am the eldest of seven children and attended a little village school in Binfield Heath, then attending Gillotts School in Henley. I married Terry 38 years ago this month. We brought up two children, Lee and Donna who both attended local schools and Henley College. Having worked in Henley over the past 38 years I have worked with residents of all ages. I also got to know many residents when I accompanied Terry to a wide variety of social events while he served Henley as a councillor. I was very proud to have had the experience of accompanying Terry as his Mayoress when he served as Mayor of Henley in 1996 and 2007. As Terry’s wife I know that no one cared more or did more than Terry to keep Henley special. I would like to continue Terry’s work, particularly Townlands Hospital which mattered so much to him and everyone in Henley.

Elizabeth Hodgkin for District Council
I have lived in Henley most of my life and Richard and I bought our family up in the town. I am a freelance administrator and also work at the Youth Centre. I have been a Town Councillor for 7 years and since May 2009 it has been an honour to be Mayor. I am on the Management Committee of the CAB, Henley Day Centre, Henley Youth Centre and as Mayor serve as a Trustee of many local charities. I am Chairman of Henley in Bloom, Vice Chairman of the Christmas Decorations/Christmas Festival and serve on the Tourism Group of the Henley Partnership. I have always sung in Church Choirs and continue to do so and as Mayor this year have been pleased to instigate the Mayor’s Choir Festival. I believe in taking part and not standing by and letting someone else do it. Local democracy is important to me and especially over the past year when I have come to meet so many residents and organisations in our very special town. I would not want to live anywhere else and will always work to keep it special.
